Notes:
* As with the Soul without Life phase, most of this phase can be completed as any class or job. Whilst relatively slow, completing Vanu Vanu and Vath Tribal Quests is a reliable way to bring in 1 token per day (slightly more if starting from minimum rank, due to bonus jobs from rank up) along with XP for any Lv50-59 class/job, or Tomestones of Poetics (from Vanu Vanu) for Lv60 classes/jobs.
* All of the tokens required (whether Unidentifiable Objects, or crafted/company seal items) can be acquired before this quest is actually available, though Cristiana will not appear until this quest has been started. Stockpiled Tomestones of Poetics are also useful. Running FATEs for the elemental crystals will generate a lot of company seals unless you are extremely lucky.
Journal
*Yalfort has arrived in Mord Souq bearing pertinent information.

*In the marketplace of Mord Souq, you are greeted by Yalfort, a member of the select few privy to the details surrounding the investigation being carried out in the Empty. After you are joined by Ryne and Urianger, Yalfort informs you that the girl who has been unconscious since leading the attack on Eden has awoken and is being escorted by Thancred to this very location. You learn that her name is Gaia and that she was originally a resident of Eulmore, although she has no memory of recent events. A short while later, she arrives with her newfound footman close behind, and it seems Thancred has been given the unenviable task of carrying her luggage. It soon becomes abundantly clear that she is incredibly impatient, and she demands that if the group insists on speaking at length, they should at least find somewhere to sit down first.

*Gaia reveals that she has no memory whatsoever of your previous encounter, while Urianger inquires as to the true nature of her arcane abilities. She attributes these powers to a voice inside her head that she refers to as the faerie which bears an uncanny similarity to Ryne's relationship to Minfilia. Gaia comes to the conclusion that if it was the faerie's intention for her to make contact with Eden, that is where she must go, and in so doing find the answers to the questions surrounding her past. In spite of Ryne's and Urianger's warnings, Gaia rushes off into the desert, displaying a surprising turn of speed, prompting Thancred to lead the rest of the group in chasing after her.

*You race in the direction of a distant scream, where you discover Gaia staring down an enormous vilekin. As you dash to her rescue, she casts a seemingly potent spell, although the dark aura quickly dissipates, leaving the creature entirely unscathed. As it lunges to strike, it is suddenly enveloped in swirling magicks that leave nary a trace of the chitin-plated beast behind, while Gaia herself is thankfully unharmed.

*Shortly after arriving on the scene, Ryne tells Gaia that if she is determined to risk life and limb to see Eden, you should all travel together. Thancred and Urianger's attempts to talk her out of it are vehemently rebuffed, though her two mentors soon admit that it was merely a ploy to test her resolve. Once again, Gaia cuts the conversation short and leads the way to the Derrick, where your transportation to the Empty awaits.

*Thancred has finished preparing the skyslipper for the long journey ahead. Although the craft was apparently designed to only seat four people, the addition of the petite Gaia as the fifth member of your group is unlikely to cause any problems. As Thancred suggests, Urianger could always be made to sit with the camping supplies should you be in need of space inside the vessel.

*After arriving at the camp, you find Gaia gazing towards Eden as it floats silently above the lake. As she stands in quiet contemplation, your comrades prepare to restore the next element to the Empty.

Voidwalker's Phases & Abilities
NOTE: It is possible to fall off the edge of the arena and plummet to an early doom during the entire encounter. However, should any participant fall, they can be raised after a moderate delay.

-----

Phase 1
*Doomvoid Guillotine creates a massive straight line AoE directly through Voidwalker across the full length of the arena (relative to its current position and the direction it is facing). In short, the line will always be through the back/front of Voidwalker. After a brief delay, anyone standing in the reddish telegraph will sustain moderate damage and debuffs.

*Nyx Demons will spawn along the Guillotine line, side-by-side, with each consecutive demon facing opposite directions. For example, if Voidwalker is in the centre of the arena (facing north) and Guillotine was cast through its north/south side, then Nyx will form in that line shortly afterwards, facing east, west, east, west, etc. After a brief delay, the demons will begin traversing in the direction they are facing until they leave the arena, inflicting damage and debuffs unto anyone caught in their path.

*Doomvoid Slicer is a vicious donut AoE centred on Voidwalker. After a brief delay, anyone not standing directly in Voidwalker's hitbox will be sliced for moderate damage and debuffs. However, if Voidwalker is being tanked at the far end of the arena, there is usually enough space for players to avoid this simply by standing on the opposite side of the platform as well.

*Nyx Demons will once again spawn, only this time, they take on the shape of the donut AoE (ie. circular - one north, east, west and south of Voidwalker). After a brief delay, they will travel towards where the boss initially cast Doimvoid Slicer, inflicting damage and debuffs on anyone they collide with during their travel. Once they collide with each other, they will disperse.

-----

NOTE: Nyx Demons will always be summoned after each and every cast of Doomvoid Guillotine/Slicer.

-----

*Shadowflame is a vicious tank-buster that will hit both the main target and off-tank simultaneously. As a result, both tanks should be ready to mitigate whenever necessary.

*Dark Fire III places large AoE markers on four random players, forcing them to spread out to avoid damaging teammates with their incoming AoE damage. Dark Fire III is noticeable by the AoE circles (and icon above the victims head) taking on a reddish-pink hue. After a brief delay, Dark Fire III explodes, dealing high damage to its victims and anyone else caught in the blast(s).

*Unholy Darkness places a stack-marker on a random player, forcing the team to group together in order to help absorb as much damage as possible.

Phase 2
*Spell In Waiting will now be showcased. When cast, the next ability used by Voidwalker will become delayed. Abilities delayed in this manner will gain a new marker - a circle containing the icon of the delayed spell - along with a clock-like aesthetic, as well as a ticking timer that counts down when the ability is about to detonate. As you can imagine, this will lead to various mechanic combos that may trick players into reacting too early.

*Dark Fire III (In Waiting) - casts the same pink-red AoE markers and icons onto four random players just like before, except this time, a clock-like animation displays that this spell is In Waiting. Rather than exploding after a brief delay like its original version, it will only explode when the In Waiting timer has completed, indicated by a 5-second countdown animation within the clock-like icon over each victims head. This first cast will not overlap with any other mechanics, essentially serving as a micro-tutorial of what to expect.

*Unholy Darkness (In Waiting) - casts the stack-marker from earlier, except this time, it will be In Waiting, gaining the same clock-like icon. Instead of being executed after a brief delay, it will only detonate when the marked player's timer counts down. Just like the above Dark Fire III, this delayed version of Unholy Darkness will not overlap with any other mechanics - another mini-tutorial of what is to come.

*Dark Fire III (In Waiting) + Unholy Darkness (In Waiting) will now test the group. Voidwalker, after casting a delayed Dark Fire III (4x Pink-Red AoE markers), will also cast a delayed stack marker. For this first overlap, both spells will go off simultaneously, so players with the AoE marker should spread out away from the group, whereas anyone without an AoE marker should bunch up to help absorb the stack-marker.

*Entropy causes Voidwalker to unleash a vicious barrage of unavoidable raid-wide damage that should be healed or shielded through.

*Hand of Erebos will now spawn at the eastern or western edge of the arena. After a moderate delay, the menacing hand will eventually hit the platform and knock people in the direction it is facing (as indicated by an arena-wide telegraph that displays arrows pointing in the knockback direction). All participants should move as close to the hand as possible (without falling off the platform) to avoid being punted over the edge to their doom. Additionally, knockback from the Hand of Erebos can also be avoided by utilizing knockback immunity cooldowns.

*Doomvoid Guillotine will once again be cast through Voidwalker in the direction it is facing - indicated by the massive straight-line AoE across the platform. Simply move out of the telegraph to avoid, though bear in mind, Nyx Demons will be summoned along the line after it has detonated and must be avoided just like before.

*Hand of Erebos will spawn at the same time as the Nyx Demons, forcing players to avoid the flying creatures while navigating towards the Hand of Erebos to avoid being knocked off the platform.

*Doomvoid Slicer - the donut AoE from earlier - will be cast once more, forcing all participants to move into Voidwalkers hitbox. Bear in mind that Nyx Demons will be spawned afterward and must be avoided, just like earlier.

*Shadowflame - the tank-buster against both tanks simultaneously - will be cast once more, followed by another Entropy (the unavoidable raid-wide AoE). Tanks and Healers, be ready!

*Punishing Ray spawns multiple pulsating pools around the arena. Visually, you will eventually see objects floating from the sky towards each puddle, much like meteor mechanics. Once the objects touch the ground, any pool that isn't sealed (i.e. doesn't have a player standing within it) will emit unavoidable damage and inflict vicious debuffs upon the raid. However, standing within a pool will also inflict a nasty bleed for as long you remain inside.

*Unholy Darkness (In Waiting) - casts the stack-marker from earlier with the In Waiting delay whilst the group is standing within Punishing Ray pools, baiting players into leaving too early in order to stack. Instead, the raid should wait until Punishing Ray has concluded before moving.

*However, Voidwalker will then cast Dark Fire III (In Waiting) in an attempt dissuade players from stacking up for Unholy Darkness. Do not be fooled! Instead, all participants should remain stacked until Unholy Darkness (stack) has been concluded, then move away from the group to avoid clipping teammates with the delayed Dark Fire III (AoE circles).

*Hand of Erebos and Punishing Ray will be cast in unison, forcing players to move towards the hand (or utilize knockback immunity) to avoid being pushed off the platform, then scramble to stand within the pulsating pools and seal them before Punishing Ray concludes.

*Entropy will once again blast the entire raid with unavoidable damage.

*Shadow Eye places a 'look away' marker on a player, indicated by a purple icon in the shape of an open eye. Only those who are looking directly at the targeted player when the spell has been activated will be affected by its detrimental effects; thus players must ensure they have their back to the marked player when it goes off. Failure to look away from the target when it goes off will Petrify them, rendering them unable to move for a considerable amount of time.

*Shadow Eye (In Waiting) places the 'look away' marker on another player along with the In Waiting timer. The raid must be ready to turn away from the effected player once the 5-second timer begins counting down. However, various mechanics will take place before Shadow Eye (In Waiting) is executed, such as:

*Doomvoid Guillotine - another straight line-AoE through Voidwalker in the direction it is facing, followed by the summoning of more Nyx Demons along the line after it has detonated, all of which must be avoided in the same manner as before.

*Doomvoid Slicer - the donut AoE from earlier - will be cast once more, except this time, it will overlap with the upcoming Shadow Eye (In Waiting), forcing all participants to move into Voidwalkers hitbox (or to the other end of the arena if Voidwalker is being tanked near the north or south edge, whilst also avoiding the gaze of the Shadow Eye target. Bear in mind that Nyx Demons will still be spawned and must be avoided.

If you have gotten this far, all the previous mechanics will repeat on a loop until Voidwalker (or the raid) is slain.

The Avatar is the boss of the 8th turn of coil.

*Along with loot, players will obtain 20 Allagan Tomestone of Poetics for its completion.
The Avatar Abilities
All Phases
Diffusion Ray - large cone AOE that applies a DoT. This DoT ticks for 600 and can be cleansed with esuna and leeches.

Gaseous Bomb - marks a player with a non-transferable "satellite-like" icon. The target will be hit with an AOE for huge damage. Damage is split between all targets hit.

Homing Missile - draws a line between The Avatar and a random player (not MT). This line can be transferred by having another player intercept the line. The target will be hit with an AoE for a few thousand damage.

Phase 2
Brain Jack - causes MT to attack the nearest ally for x seconds. Brain Jack is casted every 30 seconds. Diffusion Ray always follows this move. (To prevent the boss from turning around, place a DPS within melee range of the tank. The DPS should not be in the front of The Avatar, at risk of being hit with Diffusion Ray).

Ballistic Missile - binds 2 players in place, and summons a large or small circle around each. After a delay, 2 people must be in the small circle(s) and 3 people must be in the large circle(s). Otherwise everybody in the circles will die. (Assuming that everybody stacks behind the boss, there are 3 different possibilities).

Phase 3
Allagan Field - debuffs a player for 30 seconds. Time is 30 seconds on, 10 seconds off, repeat. If the player takes 100 damage during the debuff, the raid will be hit with 200 damage when the debuff wears off. If the player takes 500 damage, the raid is hit with 1000 damage. (Maintain Stoneskin and Adloquium on the debuffed target to minimize damage taken.) (If desired, activate Defensive Reaction towers when Allgan Field is not active).

Biotowers
Biotowers are located at North, East, South, and West areas of the room. They activate in scripted sets of 2 or 3. They start with 1 charge and gain one charge every 15 seconds. After gaining 4 charges, the next charge will activate their special ability.

If two towers charge at the same time with the same frequency, The Avatar gains a stack of 2 buffs. The buffs will (a) increase defense and (b) increase damage output.

If towers are pushed/rushed properly, the boss will gain 0 stacks of these buffs.

If two or more towers charge to maximum, Avatar will wipe the party.

If a player steps into a tower, the tower gains one charge and the player is debuffed. This debuff increases the damage a player takes from a tower, and does not increase damage from other sources. It is not recommended that a player reach 2 stacks of the debuff. Debuff lasts for 90 seconds.

There is a 20 second period between the last tower's natural activation (nobody running in to charge it) and when the next set of towers spawn. It's always 20 seconds, whether there are two or three towers.

During two tower phases, it is an 80 second cycle (4x15s between natural charges + 20s before next towers spawn). The debuff you get for charging a tower manually lasts 90 seconds, so you have to plan accordingly.

During three tower phases, it is a 100 seconds cycle (4x20s between natural charges + 20s before next towers spawn). Because it's longer than the 90s debuff, you can have the same people activate the towers.

Special abilities of the towers:

North - summon 1 clockwork dreadnaught (Dread has conal aoe swipe, and will enrage if not killed fast enough, causing a wipe).

East - spawn 3 landmines in random areas, but not near towers and not under the boss (Touching a mine causes knockback and ~2000 AOE damage. If any mine remains after 15 seconds, the raid will wipe).

South - Defensive Reaction (Raidwide AOE damage).

West - Defensive Reaction (Raidwide AOE damage).

The Avatar Strategy
This fight has a 11m hard enrage timer. After 11 minutes The Avatar will wipe the raid. The Avatar stays in the center of the boss room. When the Main Tank moves out of the melee range of The Avatar, it will use heavy hitting lasers instead of auto-attacks. Fighting in the northeast corner of the boss (the back-left corner as you enter the room) is recommended because this gives you access to the two more important biotowers, and gives easy vision of the AOE biotowers to the healers.

Phase 1: 0s - 2m40s
Set 1 (Dread + West Tower): rush dread tower (send 2 DPS to dread tower). Tank grabs dread, and uses all cooldowns to survive.

Set 2 (Mines + West Tower): rush mines tower. Assign 3 DPS for landmines, one for each landmine. Alternate strategy.

Phase 2: 2m40s - 7m or 45% HP
With enough dps (pushing to 45% health), you can skip the Ballistic Missiles after the 5th tower set.

If you push to 45% before ~6:00, Allagan Field comes early and the 5th set of towers doesn't appear. In other words, very high DPS allows you to skip as much as Phase 2 as you'd like.

The Avatar always does Homing Missiles immediately after Brainjack ends. It makes sense for the same person to be responsible for tanking Brainjacks duty and Homing Missiles. IMO, Bard is the perfect candidate for this job since it comes at no compromise to their DPS output.

The Avatar gains Brain Jack and Ballistic Missile abilities.

Set 3 (Dread + West Tower): see above, for set 1.

Set 4 (Mines + West Tower): see above, for set 2.

Set 5 (Dread + Mines Tower): you can choose to rush dread or mines. Picking dread, you must deal with Ballistic Missile and mines at the same time. Picking mines, you must deal with Ballistic Missile and the dread at the same time.

Phase 3: 7m - 11m or 45% to 0% HP
3 towers now activate per wave. 3 players must push towers now. These people should not be debuffed; healers and tank(s) might need to get involved.

The tower's automatic charge rate is now 20 seconds, instead of 15 seconds.

The player with Allagan Field should not be pushing towers or hitting mines, period.

The Avatar always casts Homing Missiles right after Allagan Field in this phase.

The Avatar can no longer cast Brain Jack or Ballistic Missile.

The Avatar gains the Allagan Field ability.

Set 6 (Mines + West + South Tower): send 2 players to mines and 1 player to south. (Flexible strategy, based on group preference).

Set 7 (Mines + Dread + South Tower): send 2 players to dread and 1 player to mines. (Flexible strategy, based on group preference).

Set 8 (Mines + West + South Tower): see above, for set 6.

Strategies for Tower-Pushing
Strategies for above
*Set 1: 2 dreadnaught
*Set 2: 2 mines
*Set 7: 2 to AoE, 1 to Mines, 0 to Dread. Kill boss before Dread spawns.
